2013-2014

Dear Viewer,

If you are a current or former student, you know that Slauson is an excellent middle school with an outstanding reputation.  If you are new to Slauson I am especially excited to tell you a little about our school.

Slauson is the oldest middle school in Ann Arbor, built in 1937.  It is located on W. Washington just a few blocks west of downtown Ann Arbor.   Our three-story building has a recently renovated media center, 2 gyms, 2 computer labs and the capability to turn individual classrooms into labs with several portable computer lab carts.

We have a strong academic program, offering 4 core academic classes (language arts, math, science and social studies) for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Additionally, we have an excellent elective program offering music (choir, band and orchestra), art, computers, physical education, technical education and world languages (French, German, Latin, and Spanish).  We are the magnet school for the middle school English as a Second Language (ESL) program for this side of the city.  Our special education program offers a full range of services supporting students with many types of disabilities.  We provide support classes for students who are struggling in the academic core classes.  Our well-rounded programs are designed to support all students from those who struggle to students who are gifted.

Our day begins with a before-school breakfast program and a before-school gym program (running from October through the beginning of May).  Both programs begin at 7:40 AM, prior to the regular start of classes at 8:10 AM.  Our day ends with a wide variety of after-school programs including athletics, clubs, and homework help.  The after-school bus provides transportation for students who stay for homework help, clubs and 6th grade athletics, operating Monday through Thursday only.  Students participating in 7th and 8th grade athletic programs have longer practices and will need to arrange their own transportation home.

To assist our students and parents we have two full-time and one half-time counselors for our three grade levels.  If you are interested in learning more about Slauson and a particular grade, please contact the appropriate counselor:
